Step aboard Belmond Royal Scotsman for a luxury train journey through the stunning Scottish Highlands. Belmond Royal Scotsman offers the highest standard of comfort, delicious food and impeccable service on this outstanding journey.
Your cabin aboard the train offers the upmost comfort. To ensure you get a quality nights sleep the train is stabled each night in a quiet siding or station. Facilities within the cabins include lower beds, individually controlled heating, a dressing table, full length wardrobe and your own private bathroom with high quality toiletries and fresh towels supplied daily.
The table d'hôte meals served during the journey are to the highest standard as is the service that is provided.
The itinerary of this tour is as follows:
Day 1
You will board the train at Edinburgh, travel north, crossing the Firth of Forth via the magnificent Forth Railway Bridge. As you pass Arboath, Montrose and Aberdeen, you will be served a sumptuous afternoon tea.
The train spends the evening in Keith and an Informal dinner and entertainment can be enjoyed in the Observation Car.
Day 2
Depart from Keith and travel west along the Moray Firth towards Inverness, capital of the Highlands. Lunch is served as the train heads towards Kyle of Lochalsh. We feel this is the most scenic railway route in the UK.
You will disembark in scenic Plockton and you can choose to take a boat trip to see wild seals or enjoy a dram and a traditional Highland welcome in the Plockton Hotel. Alternatively, visit Eilean Donan Castle, one of Scotland's most iconic sights, and learn how the castle was painstakingly restored to its former glory.
The night will be spent on board in Kyle of Lochalsh. A formal dinner will be served and is followed by coffee and liqueurs in the Observation Car.
*Please note: On 26 September 2016, 06 October 2016, 24 April 2017, 12 June 2017 and 16 Oct 2017 there will be an alternative itinerary for the afternoon. Guests will enjoy lunch and a tour at Cawdor Castle, before returning to the train for dinner.
Day 3
As you retrace the route north to Inverness we advise you to have a camera ready to capture some fantastic views. You will then head south to Carrbridge where you alight to explore romantic Ballindalloch Castle on beautiful Speyside.
Your options at Ballindalloch include 9 holes of golf on the castle's own course, an exclusive look at what is Scotland's only single estate distillery or a private castle tour.
You will spend the night on board at Boat of Garten on the private Strathspey Railway and relax and enjoy an informal dinner. After which, our Highlander regales guests with tales and weaponry displays.
*Please note: On 26 September 2016, 06 October 2016, 24 April 2017, 12 June 2017 and 16 Oct 2017 there will be an alternative itinerary. Early-risers will have opportunity to join a short, scenic trip to photograph the famous Eilean Donan Castle before the train heads south to Carrbridge for a tour of Glenlivet Distillery. Overnight in Bridge of Garten.
Day 4
Coach travel will be provided to take you to Rothiemurchus Estate in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park. Whilst you are here you can enjoy a spot of fishing, clay pigeon shooting or a tour of the estate.
The train will be met again at Kingussie and lunch will be served during the journey south to Dunkeld, where you disembark for a visit to Glamis Castle, childhood home of the late HM Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother.
You will return to the train in Perth for a formal dinner and some entertainment.
The train will stay overnight in Dundee.
Day 5
After breakfast the train heads south to Edinburgh where your luxury tour of Scotland ends.

No flights or pre and post departure hotels are included with this tour. If you are not a UK citizen, you must have a valid passport that will remain valid beyond the duration of your journey. Depending on which country issues your passport, you may need a visa for entry into the UK. Please check with your travel agent or government agency before travelling to the UK.
For safety reasons, children under 12 years and pets are not permitted on the train.
Wheelchair users or those with restricted mobility are asked to contact us directly to discuss the suitability of a journey aboard Belmond Royal Scotsman.
Special diets can be accommodated with our Chef. Please be sure to tell us in advance of any allergies, food related or not.
Please advise the Belmond Royal Scotsman office or your travel agent of any health restrictions before travelling with us. Please note that there are no professional medical facilities on Belmond Royal Scotsman.
In accordance with Scottish Law, smoking is not permitted on board.
Cabins have limited space, therefore we recommend each guest travels with one suitcase and one carry-on bag. Twin State Cabins have storage space under each bed measuring 71cm x 23cm. If necessary, facilities are available at The Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh for luggage storage during your journey. If you are staying at another hotel, please ask the Hotel Manager. Prior to boarding, please attach a Belmond Royal Scotsman luggage label/tag to each piece of your luggage.

The Weather
The weather should not affect your journey but in severe weather conditions we advise you to call the reservations office to ensure the journey will be going ahead.
Session Length
This journey lasts for 5 days, 4 nights aboard the Belmond Royal Scotsman. You will depart from Edinburgh at around 13:40pm and arrive back on the 5th day at around 10:00am.
Numbers
This gift certificate is valid for one person to take the luxury train journey.
Spectators
Spectators are not permitted. Anyone wishing to join you on the journey should a valid gift certificate and book the same date.
What to Wear
For daytime excursions and relaxing on board, we recommend casual, comfortable clothing. In the evening we recommend a jacket and tie for informal dinners and black tie/tuxedo or kilt for formal dinners.
